February 12th – Day 6 - Rayavadee Resort, Krabi

Our first rest day of the tour, and what a place to spend a day doing nothing!!

Before going further I must report on our American/Iranian friends, Ahmad, Raza and Darvish, who remained behind in Malaysia as their Chevy had broken down. Initially we were told they were heading back to the US and the UK as it was not possible to get the car repaired quickly enough to catch up with the tour. Now, however, we are told they will be meeting us again in Bangkok and coming as passengers, with whoever has space in their car. We will definitely be offering them a lift, as I know many others have also done so. I will report more when we get to Bangkok on Sunday.

Back to our day off. As I mentioned in my last posting, the resort is at the end of a peninsular. There are towering limestone cliffs and a multitude of karst islands offshore. It is a very spectacular place.

Our ‘pavilion’ as the resort called all the self-contained units, had two floors. Each unit was hidden amongst the palms, so you had a great deal of privacy.

A magnificent swimming pool looked straight out to sea with islands in the distance. It was blisteringly hot and we spent a lot of the day in the pool to keep cool.
Another hard day at the office for our paramedic, Mike Johnson!

Wendy took this photo of Greg and James enjoying a drink by the beach.

As I was walking through to the beach I came across a group of people feeding some monkeys. I think they were macaques. If they are not macaques, please let me know.

Malaysia and Thailand are an hour behind Singapore and seven hours ahead of the UK. Sunset was at 6.30pm and we watched the sun go down behind the islands.

In the evening we had a beach side bbq of fresh fish. A fine way to end the day.
